Kenmore source prefixes by appliance: extended cross-reference (cooking, refrigeration, laundry, dehumidifiers, Canada)
Covers: Kenmore and Kenmore Elite appliances with a 3-digit source prefix before the dot (PPP.xxxxxxxx), including cooking, refrigeration, laundry, dishwashers, microwaves, dehumidifiers and older cooking/HVAC prefixes; Canadian 'C' prefixes noted. Extends the basic manual kenmore-identify-manufacturer; read that first for tag locations.
Sears never built appliances; every Kenmore was made by another company, and the 3-digit prefix is Sears' code for that supplier. The basic manual covers the big laundry/fridge prefixes. This one goes deeper: cooking and older prefixes, appliance types per prefix, prefixes that point to two different makers depending on the list, and the cases (dehumidifiers, water heaters) where the prefix alone is not enough. Every row says whether two independent sources agree.
Safety first
- Follow the safety rules of the OEM platform manual you map the unit to.
- Gas cooking and sealed-system work on any Kenmore follow the same blocked rules as the OEM: diagnose and refer.
How it works
Most published prefix lists descend from one or two old charts. Two of the lists we used share the same typos and entries, so we treat them as ONE source; a prefix counts as verified only when an independent list, the manufacturer, a parts listing that names the OEM part, or a CPSC recall notice agrees.
The prefix identifies the supplier at the time the model was made, not today's owner of that supplier. Example: Roper-coded ranges (103, 278, 647) were built in a plant that GE Appliances runs today, while the Roper brand name belongs to Whirlpool. Always confirm with the full model number in a parts diagram.
Appliance type matters: the same maker had several prefixes, one per product line (e.g. Whirlpool 110 laundry, 106 refrigeration, 198 freezers, 664/665 cooking/dishwashers). If a prefix appears on an appliance type nobody lists for it, treat the mapping as unconfirmed.
Kenmore after Sears: the brand now belongs to Transformco (Transform SR Brands). Newer Kenmore products sold online or in other stores may not carry the PPP.xxxxx format; for those, the rating label, the manual's 'manufactured by' line or the parts list is the only way to find the OEM.
Canadian Kenmore units can start with C plus three digits (C970, C880...). The C list we found comes from the single chart lineage, so treat it as a lead only.
