JennAir downdraft cooktops/ranges and wall ovens: field service manual
Covers: JennAir downdraft cooktops and ranges (including grill-cartridge models) and JennAir electric wall ovens/ranges on the Whirlpool platform. JennAir built-in refrigerators are Whirlpool-family designs: use the Whirlpool refrigerator content and the model's tech sheet.
JennAir is a Whirlpool brand. Its ovens use the Whirlpool F#E# code system (shown as F#E# or E#F#) and its tech sheets sit inside the unit like other Whirlpool products. The brand's signature is the downdraft vent: a blower under the cooktop pulls smoke down through a grille and filter, switched by a fan switch and, on cartridge models, by a switch the cartridge engages.
Safety first

- Gas downdraft cooktops: gas-side work is blocked
How it works
Downdraft: the fan switch (or touch control) powers the blower motor under the cooktop, which exhausts through ducting to the outside. On grill-cartridge models a pin on the cartridge must engage the cooktop body to close the switch that lets the fan run; a cartridge not seated means no fan. Some designs use filter switches in the interlock path.
Raised (pop-up) downdraft units add an up/down motor and limit switches; electrical failure or the up/down switch keeps the vent from rising.
Ovens: the electronic range control reads an RTD sensor, drives relays for the elements, and runs a motorized door lock for self-clean. F9 E0 flags a supply wiring fault; it can also be set by line noise during an outage or by pressing keys during the 10-second power-up delay.
