Countertop bullet & nugget ice makers: field service manual
Covers: Hand-filled countertop units: bullet/prong-type portables and auger-type nugget makers (Opal 1.0/2.0). Generic platform; confirm with model data.
Small plug-in machines with a hand-filled reservoir, a small compressor and a bin that is not a freezer. Bullet machines freeze ice on chilled metal prongs; nugget machines freeze water on a cold cylinder and an auger scrapes and compresses it into nuggets. Most service is water, sensor and scale related.
Safety first
- Unplug before draining or cleaning.
- No soap in the water system.
- Sealed-system issues are blocked: refer out or replace the unit.
How it works
Bullet type: a pump moves water from the reservoir to a tray where chilled prongs sit; ice forms in about 5-15 minutes, extra water returns to the reservoir, the prongs warm slightly and the bullets drop into the bin.
Nugget type: water from the reservoir is frozen on a refrigerated cylinder; a rotating auger shaves it off and pushes nuggets into the bin. Auto-defrost runs when ice builds around the auger.
An ice-level sensor stops production when the bin is full; a water sensor turns on Add Water/blue indicators.
Bins are insulated only; ice melts back into the reservoir and is remade.
