Bucket full light (or P1/P2/Eb) stays on with an empty bucket
The bucket switch logic depends on a float and a small switch or magnet. A misseated or warped bucket, a float stuck with slime, or a failed float switch causes a false full signal. On units drained by hose, a loose hose connection can leak water into the bucket.
Continuous drain or built-in pump not draining
Gravity drains fail from uphill or sagging hoses, a hose end sitting in water, missing washers or loose fittings. Pump drains fail from an unseated pump hose, kinks, a clogged pump filter screen or a dead pump. Most fixes are hose routing and cleaning.
Dehumidifier blows warm air or smells
A working dehumidifier always discharges slightly warmer air than it takes in; that is normal. Musty smell comes from a dirty bucket, filter or coil.
Dehumidifier coils frosting or icing up
Light frost that comes and goes is normal: the defrost logic stops the compressor and runs the fan until it clears. Persistent ice means the room is too cold, airflow is restricted, the coil sensor has failed, or the refrigerant charge is low (sealed system, blocked).
Dehumidifier error codes: general approach (sensor, bucket, pump)
Most portable dehumidifiers share the same code groups: sensor faults (E1/E2/EH), bucket (P1/FL), pump (E5/P2) and refrigeration protection (E3/EC). Power-cycle and basic checks fix many; sensor faults need a part.
Dehumidifier fan not running
Confirm it is a real fault: many units run the fan on after the compressor stops, and some stop the fan at setpoint. Then check for a jammed blade, a loose motor plug, the fan capacitor (on PSC motors) and the board output.
Dehumidifier humidity reading wrong or runs nonstop
Compare against a known-good hygrometer. A dusty or failed humidity sensor, a set point too low for the space, or an undersized unit makes it run nonstop.
Dehumidifier noisy or vibrating
Fan and compressor sound is normal. Abnormal noise usually comes from an unlevel unit, a loose panel or bucket, debris or ice hitting the fan, or a failing fan motor. Grinding on a brand-new unit suggests shipping damage.
Dehumidifier runs but collects little or no water
Rule out the easy causes first: setpoint already reached, room too cool, dirty filter, blocked airflow, or water going down a hose. Then confirm the compressor actually runs and the coil gets cold. A compressor that runs with a warm coil is a sealed-system failure: refer, do not repair.
Dehumidifier shuts off or will not stay running
Many stops are by design: setpoint reached, bucket full or removed, defrost, compressor restart delay or a scheduled rest. Real faults are overload trips from heat or poor airflow, power problems (extension cords, tripped breakers) and failing controls.
Dehumidifier won't turn on (no display)
Check outlet, cord and any reset button first. Then internal fuse, transformer (on some whole-house units) and the control board.
