Refrigerator water filter leaks at the housing, or the new filter will not lock in
Nearly all filter-area leaks after a change come from the cartridge itself: the shipping cap left on, a stretched or rolled O-ring, a cartridge that is not turned fully home, or a non-matching aftermarket filter. Only after those are ruled out is the housing (head) suspect, and a cracked housing is a parts repair. Always shut the water off before pulling a filter that is leaking.
Before you start
- Close the household supply valve to the refrigerator before removing a leaking filter
- Unplug the unit if water has reached the base grille, wiring or the floor near the outlet
