Bottom-freezer drawer won't close or seal (ice on the slides, basket off its track, ice behind the bin)
A drawer that does not close is usually mechanical: a lower basket that is off its slides, packages or ice cubes that fell behind the baskets, frost on the slides, a folded gasket, or a drawer that is out of alignment. Once the drawer has been left ajar for a while, frost forms and makes the problem worse. Clear and realign first; worn slides or a damaged gasket are the parts to quote.
Before you start
- Do not chip ice off slides or the liner with a knife or screwdriver: you can puncture the liner or tubing behind it
- Keep a hair dryer away from standing water and use it only briefly, on low
