Trane S9V2 (96 Two-Stage Variable Speed) gas furnace: quick sheet
Covers: Trane S9V2 96% two-stage variable-speed condensing furnace (now marketed as the Trane '96 Two-Stage Variable Speed'); the S9V2-VS (97%, variable-speed inducer) is a separate model now sold as the '97'. American Standard sells equivalents.
Trane's mainstream condensing furnace: two-stage gas valve, variable-speed blower, stainless primary and secondary heat exchangers. The older S9V2 brochure lists a two-speed draft inducer. Fault codes are blinked on the board LED (some models also use a display); meanings vary by series, so read the door label.
Safety first
- Gas side blocked.
- Confirm the blink-code meaning on the furnace door label; online lists disagree by series.
How it works
Two-stage operation: inducer low/high speed with matching gas valve stage; variable-speed blower ramps airflow to match.
Stainless primary and secondary heat exchangers; condensate drains through a trap.
Cabinet widths 17.5-24.5 in, height 34 in, depth about 28.8 in.
