Whirlpool WED7120H / WGD7120H 27-inch smart dryer (7.4 cu ft, steam refresh): quick sheet
Covers: WED7120HW / WED7120HC (electric) and the WGD7120H gas twin, top-load washer companion, with engineering revisions (e.g. WED7120HW0-HW2). H = introduction letter (about 2019-2020, not confirmed by two sources). Listed as discontinued.
Tall (about 42 3/4 in) top-load-companion cabinet, not stackable, with Wrinkle Shield Plus, EcoBoost, Steam Refresh and Wi-Fi. The steam cycles need a cold-water connection to the dryer's inlet valve. Same Whirlpool heat circuit and sensing logic. Deep diagnostics: Whirlpool / Maytag / Kenmore 29-inch dryer field service manual.
Safety first
- Electric dryer: 240 V. Unplug or turn off the 30 A breaker before any panel comes off.
- Never bypass the thermal fuse, cutoff or high-limit, even for a test.
- A blown thermal fuse is a symptom: inspect and clean the whole vent before returning the dryer to service.
- Gas twin: smell gas = stop, no switches or flames, leave and call the gas utility. Work on the gas valve, gas line, orifice or burner adjustment is for a licensed gas technician; this sheet covers the electrical checks only (gas supply OFF and unit unplugged).
How it works
One motor turns the drum by belt and runs the blower; heat is allowed only after the motor runs and the door is closed.
The electronic control reads the exhaust thermistor and the moisture bars to hold temperature and end auto-dry cycles.
Gas twins swap the element for a hot-surface igniter, flame sensor and two-coil gas valve; the rest of the machine is the same.
Steam Refresh sprays a small amount of water into the drum through a solenoid inlet valve and nozzle fed by the cold supply.
