Whirlpool WED5605M / WGD5605M 27-inch front-load dryer (7.4 cu ft, Wrinkle Shield): quick sheet
Covers: WED5605MW (electric) and the WGD5605M gas twin, plus engineering revisions. M = a recent model-year letter (about 2023 on, not confirmed by two sources). Listed as discontinued by two retailers with a newer model offered.
Entry front-load Whirlpool dryer: stackable, reversible door, Advanced Moisture Sensing, EcoBoost, Wrinkle Shield and a Sanitize cycle, no Wi-Fi and no steam. Same heat circuit and sensing as other Whirlpool-family electronic dryers, but in the 27-inch front-load cabinet, so read the tech sheet for part positions. Deep diagnostics: Whirlpool / Maytag / Kenmore 29-inch dryer field service manual.
Safety first
- Electric dryer: 240 V. Unplug or turn off the 30 A breaker before any panel comes off.
- Never bypass the thermal fuse, cutoff or high-limit, even for a test.
- A blown thermal fuse is a symptom: inspect and clean the whole vent before returning the dryer to service.
- Gas twin: smell gas = stop, no switches or flames, leave and call the gas utility. Work on the gas valve, gas line, orifice or burner adjustment is for a licensed gas technician; this sheet covers the electrical checks only (gas supply OFF and unit unplugged).
How it works
One motor turns the drum by belt and runs the blower; heat is allowed only after the motor runs and the door is closed.
The electronic control reads the exhaust thermistor and the moisture bars to hold temperature and end auto-dry cycles.
Gas twins swap the element for a hot-surface igniter, flame sensor and two-coil gas valve; the rest of the machine is the same.
