Samsung single-zone wall-mount ductless (WindFree and standard AR-series): quick sheet
Covers: Samsung residential inverter heat pump wall-mount systems with AR-prefixed model numbers. The two digits after AR are nominal capacity in thousands of BTU/h (AR09, AR12, AR18, AR24). In paired listings the indoor unit carries N and the outdoor unit X in the same position near the end (for example AR12TXFYAWKN... indoor with AR12TXFYAWKX... outdoor in EU listings, and AR18CSFCMWKNCV indoor with AR18CSFCMWKXCV outdoor in a US submittal). The trailing letters are a market code (EU, CV and others); the AR12TXFYAWKNU style string named in requests was not found in any listing, so confirm the full string on the nameplate. Families include WindFree (AR...SFAB..., AR...CSFCM..., AR...DXKAP... IAQ) and standard/AR9500T units. Search terms: Samsung WindFree mini split, AR12TSFABWKNCV, AR18CSFCMWKNCV, Samsung E101, E121, E154, E202, E458, E554.
Samsung wall-mount systems pair a digital-inverter outdoor unit with a wall head, and many models are SmartThings Wi-Fi capable. Fault codes are three-digit E-codes: the first digit hints at where the fault sits (E1xx indoor, E2xx/E4xx outdoor, E5xx system). Some models show the code on the indoor display, older displays show only the last two digits (for example 54) or blink colored LEDs, and Samsung notes the first letter can be E or C depending on model year. Refrigerant-side faults go to an EPA 608-certified technician.
Safety first
- All refrigerant work is blocked: refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.
- Inverter DC bus capacitors can stay charged for minutes; verify 0 V DC before touching the outdoor board.
- Record codes before power-cycling.
- Do not mix R-410A and R-32 units.
How it works
The outdoor unit is fed from a 208-230 V disconnect (on 208-230 V models) and the indoor head communicates with it over the interconnect cable. A lost link shows as E202 on the systems covered by our sources.
The indoor board reads a room-temperature sensor and an evaporator pipe sensor, drives a DC fan motor and louvers, and on WindFree models can switch to the WindFree mode where air leaves through thousands of small holes in the front panel instead of the main louver.
The outdoor inverter board varies compressor speed and outdoor fan speed and drives an electronic expansion valve and reversing valve. It protects itself on compressor start failure (E461), power-module over-current (E464), outdoor fan faults (E458) and sensor faults (E221 outdoor air, E231 condenser, E251 discharge).
Not every display is a fault: CF is a filter-clean reminder, a 'Cl'-type indicator is auto-clean drying the coil after shut-off, and dF is defrost in heat mode (indoor fan pauses, outdoor unit may steam).
