The RA17 runs a two-stage Copeland UltraTech scroll compressor (about 67 % and 100 % capacity per Rheem). It can be wired in fully communicating EcoNet mode (four wires E1, E2, R, C to an EcoNet thermostat or control center with an EcoNet furnace or air handler) or as a conventional two-stage unit (Y1, Y2, C). Most problems are wiring/mode setup, the two-stage solenoid circuit, capacitor and fan, and pressure-switch trips.

How it works

Communicating mode: the outdoor control talks over E1/E2 with the indoor unit and EcoNet thermostat, which also show alarms and history.

Conventional mode: Y1 runs low stage, Y2 runs high stage (wiring figures in the spec sheet show a typical two-stage thermostat with Y1, Y2, C and R).

High- and low-pressure controls are standard (minor series B).

Low-ambient cooling down to about 0 °F requires Rheem's low-ambient kit, with crankcase heater and freeze-stat recommended on compressors fitted with that kit.
