KitchenAid Architect Series II KUDE dishwashers (KUDE60, KUDE70 and kin): quick sheet

Covers: KitchenAid Architect Series II 24 in top-control (fully integrated) stainless tall-tub dishwashers with model numbers starting KUDE (for example KUDE60FXSS and KUDE70FXSS), early 2010s. A 2013 KitchenAid tall-tub technical education guide lists KUDE60 variants. The production span of each KUDE model was not confirmed by two sources; read the serial and the tech sheet.

Single sourceBrands: KitchenAid6 components

Whirlpool-built KitchenAid tall-tub dishwashers with hidden top controls, a stainless tub, three racks on the KUDE70 (third-level Culinary Tool Rack), ProScrub rear jets, a ProWash cycle and a fan-assisted ProDry option. Retail listings give the KUDE70FXSS 16 place settings and about 40 dBA. Calls are mostly drain and wash complaints that start at the filter, hose and check valve, then the pumps and the control. The model's service sheet is behind the lower kick plate; fault-code meanings and the service-test key sequence vary by model, so read that sheet first.

Safety first

  • Turn off the breaker before removing the kick plate or touching the pumps or heater.
  • Shut off the water before opening the inlet valve.
  • Glass in the sump: wear cut-resistant gloves.

How it works

Top controls on the door edge: nothing shows on the front, so a dead panel can be a door latch or harness issue rather than the board.

Filtered wash system at the tub floor (one repair guide describes a two-part filter on Architect models) feeding a wash motor and a separate drain pump; a check valve in the drain path stops water returning to the tub.

Heated water and drying use a heater plus the ProDry fan on models that have it.

Fault-code meanings differ between sources and model families; KitchenAid's service sheets describe a service diagnostic cycle, but the key sequence for KUDE models was not confirmed by two sources.

Whirlpool family dishwashers: reading Clean-light flash codes, F#E# displays and the diagnostic cycle

Models with a display show the code as F#E#. Lights-only models blink one LED in two groups: the first group is the F (function) number, a short pause, then the E (error) number, then a long pause before it repeats. A diagnostic cycle on many of these controls is entered by pressing any three keys in a 1-2-3 order three times quickly, which lights all indicators and lets you run the cycle to watch each function.

GE appliances: reading and recalling fault codes on dishwashers and laundry

GE dishwashers with electronic controls show codes on the display (C1, H2O, PF and similar) or flash the Start/Reset light in counted groups on LED-only models. GE itself splits codes into ones the user can clear (delay, detergent cup, power failure, kinked hose) and ones that need service. GE laundry generations differ a lot: older top-loaders flash LEDs, front-loaders keep a stored-code list inside a test mode. Entry sequences vary between GE models and the sources disagree, so take them only from the model's tech sheet.

Frigidaire / Electrolux: diagnostic mode, last-fault recall and relay-test codes that are not faults

Newer Frigidaire/Electrolux dishwashers show i-codes (i10, i20, i50 and similar) and two-letter codes; during the relay test inside diagnostic mode they also show short codes that only confirm the test is running and are not faults. Front-load washers keep a last-code readout you reach with a button pair or knob position. Refrigerators lose the fault code when the plug is pulled. Entry sequences differ by model and the sources conflict, so get them from the service data sheet on the unit.
