Hoshizaki AM-50BAJ / AM-50BAK top-hat undercounter cuber: quick sheet
Covers: Hoshizaki AM-50BAJ / AM-50BAK (and -AD ADA, -DS stainless variants) self-contained air-cooled undercounter cubers, light commercial and upscale residential. Refrigerant and electrical listings differ between versions: read the data plate before ordering parts.
A small spray-type 'top hat' cuber that makes about 50 lb/day of 'top hat' style cubes into a built-in bin. It needs a cold water supply, a gravity drain to a floor drain with an air gap (or the optional HS-5061 pump), and regular Scale Away cleaning. Hoshizaki service manuals are written for qualified technicians.
Safety first
- Unplug and shut off water before service.
- Sealed-system work is blocked; R-290 units need hydrocarbon-trained, EPA 608 certified technicians.
- No ammonia-based cleaners.
How it works
Water from a tank is sprayed up into inverted cups on a refrigerated evaporator, building cubes from the outside in. When the cycle ends, harvest frees the cubes and they fall to the bin; the tank refills for the next cycle.
Output depends strongly on ambient air and incoming water temperature, which explains why listings quote 51 lb or 54 lb per day. A bin control stops production when the bin is full.
A clean, open condenser and scale-free water system are the two biggest factors in production. The unit must not run in freezing conditions; below 32 F it should be drained and prepared for non-use.
