Goodman / Amana ComfortNet two-stage condensers and heat pumps (GSXC, DSXC, ASXC, GSZC, ASZC 16-18 SEER): quick sheet
Covers: Goodman (G), Goodman Deluxe (D) and Amana (A) communicating-ready two-stage split units: SXC = air conditioner, SZC = heat pump; 16 or 18 = SEER class; then capacity (024-060) and voltage digit (1 = 208/230 V single phase), e.g. GSXC180481, DSXC160361, ASZC180601. Revisions moved through Copeland UltraTech 2-stage scroll compressors (later UltraTech 3) and 7 mm coils. They work with a ComfortNet communicating thermostat over a 4-wire connection or with conventional 2-stage 24 V thermostats. Single-stage GSX/GSZ units are on a separate sheet.
The outdoor unitary control (UC) board has a three-character 7-segment display, a RECALL button, a TEST button, a learn button, a red communications LED and a green receive (Rx) LED. Fault codes are numeric (01-09) plus letter codes for sensors (A2, A3) and data (d0-d3). Heat pumps use the same board for demand defrost with selectable intervals.
Safety first
- Refrigerant pressures and charge are for an EPA 608 certified technician.
- Lock out the disconnect before touching line-voltage parts.
How it works
In a communicating system the thermostat and indoor unit share data; in conventional mode the board reads Y1/Y2 (and O/W2 on heat pumps).
The control needs a 40 VA, 208/230 to 24 VAC transformer in the outdoor unit for its own power in some configurations (per the installation literature).
Heat pumps: defrost interval selectable by dipswitches (30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes); pressing TEST and RECALL together for about 3 seconds forces a defrost during a heat call.
