GE Profile 15-in undercounter nugget ice maker (UNC15NJII, UNC15NPRII): quick sheet

Covers: GE Profile UNC15 built-in / freestanding 15 in nugget ice makers: UNC15NJII (panel-ready, gravity drain) and UNC15NPRII (stainless) and close revisions. The clear-cube sibling UCC15 shares the Time to Clean reminder but is a different (cube) machine. UNC15NJII is listed as discontinued by some dealers.

Cross-checkedBrands: GE Profile7 components

A residential undercounter nugget (chewable) ice machine: an auger in a refrigerated cylinder freezes water and extrudes soft nugget ice into a 26 lb bin. Status shows on a few lights rather than codes: Check Water (flashing red) for no water, all lights flashing for an auger fault, and a yellow Time to Clean reminder. Gravity drain is standard; an optional pump kit is needed where there is no floor drain below the unit.

Safety first

  • Unplug before reaching into the auger area or removing panels.
  • Sealed system is refer-only (EPA 608).
  • Use only the cleaner the manual specifies; follow the manual, not the bottle.

How it works

Water enters through an inlet valve / float to a reservoir that feeds the freezing cylinder. A gearmotor turns an auger inside the refrigerated cylinder; ice forms on the cylinder wall, the auger scrapes it up and it is compressed into nuggets that fall into the bin.

The bin fill sensor stops production when the bin is full and restarts it as ice is used.

If the control sees no water it flashes Check Water and rechecks about every 20 minutes, resuming on its own once water is restored. If the auger motor is not turning or is overloaded, all lights flash; GE's reset is pressing ON/OFF.

Scale and ice binding load the auger. The Time to Clean light comes on after about 6 months of use and stays on until the clean/descale routine is done; hard water shortens the interval.

Melt and drain water leave by gravity through a drain designed to prevent backflow into the bin. If the drain is not below the unit, an optional pump kit is required.
