Frigidaire FFRE / FFRA electronic window air conditioners (5,000-12,000 BTU): quick sheet with display codes
Covers: Frigidaire window-mounted room air conditioners with electronic controls in the FFRE family, e.g. FFRE053WAE (5,000 BTU/h), FFRE063WA1 (6,000), FFRE0833Q1 (8,000), FFRE103WAE (10,000), FFRE123WA1 (12,000), and the related FFRA0822U1 (8,000). The digits after FFRE give the nominal capacity (053 = 5,000, 063 = 6,000, 0833 = 8,000, 103 = 10,000, 123 = 12,000 BTU/h on Frigidaire support pages); the trailing letters/digits are revisions. Gallery inverter window units (FHWW / GHWQ) have their own sheet. Search terms: FFRE053WAE, FFRE0833Q1, FFRE103WAE, FFRE123WA1, Frigidaire AC AS code, Frigidaire AC P1.
Fixed-speed window units with a digital display that can show two-letter codes. Frigidaire's own code guide covers sensor faults (AS, ES, HS), freeze protection (F1, F2), internal communication (EC), split-system communication (LC) and P1 (bottom tray full). For most codes Frigidaire's first step is a 30-second power cycle.
Safety first
- Unplug before opening the unit; capacitors hold a charge.
- Use two people to remove a window unit.
- Refrigerant work is blocked: EPA 608-certified technician.
How it works
The board reads a room thermistor, an indoor coil (defrost) thermistor and, on some models, a discharge-air thermistor; a failed sensor stops normal operation and shows a code.
Freeze protection stops cooling when the indoor coil gets too cold; F2 asks the unit to defrost for about 5 minutes.
Condensate collects in the bottom tray; P1 means the tray is full. Frigidaire notes the tray can be full at the first start of a season (water left from storage).
