A straightforward single-stage scroll condenser with a direct-drive propeller fan, high- and low-pressure switches and a TXV-matched (hard shut-off) indoor coil. Field work is mostly electrical: contactor, run capacitor, fan motor, pressure-switch open circuits in the 24 V path, and airflow. Carrier lists start-assist, crankcase heater, low-ambient and time-delay accessories for long lines or low-ambient use.

How it works

Thermostat Y energizes the contactor coil through the unit's high- and low-pressure switches (both standard on 24ACC6). An open switch drops the 24 V call and the contactor opens.

Line voltage through the contactor feeds the scroll compressor (internal thermal overload) and the PSC condenser fan motor through the run capacitor.

Carrier lists a TXV (hard shut-off type available) for the indoor coil. For single-phase scroll units, Carrier calls the start-assist capacitor and relay required for long line sets and low-ambient cooling, and suggests it where the site has a history of low voltage.

Low-ambient cooling requires a kit (low-ambient pressure switch or MotorMaster control); Carrier pairs it with crankcase heater and freeze-stat accessories.

Lennox XC21 (air conditioner, service literature Corp. 1007-L2) and XP21 (heat pump, Corp. 1031-L7), 2, 3, 4 and 5 ton, R-410A, expansion valve indoor coils only. Both use an A175 main control (outdoor control part number 101798-xx) that works in communicating (iComfort) or conventional 24 V mode, plus a separate fan motor control. The XP21 literature describes a two-stage scroll compressor; the 2018 XC21 literature describes the compressor as one-stage while the same control section covers two-stage units, so confirm staging on the nameplate.
