Bosch IDS 2.0 inverter ducted heat pump (BOVA-36HDN1-M20G / BOVA-60HDN1-M20G with BVA air handlers): quick sheet
Covers: Bosch Inverter Ducted Split (IDS) 2.0 outdoor heat pumps BOVA-36HDN1-M20G (2-3 ton) and BOVA-60HDN1-M20G (4-5 ton), up to 20.5 SEER (R-410A), matched with Bosch BVA-24/36/48/60WN1-M20 air handlers, BMAC coils or a gas furnace. Nomenclature: BOVA = outdoor unit; 36 / 60 = max nominal capacity (kBtu/h); H = heat pump; N1 = R-410A; M = 208/230 V 1 ph 60 Hz; 20 = SEER class; G = GMCC compressor. Earlier IDS (BOVA ... M18M, up to 18 SEER) and later IDS Light / IDS Premium units have their own manuals. Works with ordinary 24 V thermostats (no communicating control required).
The outdoor unit runs a variable-speed (inverter) compressor and DC fan from a control board with a two-character LED display, LEDs and a point-check button that scrolls operating data (capacity, mode, compressor speed in Hz, sensor temperatures). Faults show as codes on that display; some codes are 'limited condition' status codes meaning the unit is protecting itself but still running.
Safety first
- Up to about 380 VDC on the inverter: verify below 42 VDC before touching.
- No charging or sealed-system steps: refer to an EPA 608 certified technician.
How it works
The unit reads Y1/Y2/O/W from the thermostat and varies compressor speed to match.
Sensors: T3 outdoor coil, T4 outdoor ambient, T5 compressor discharge, Tf module/heat sink, Th suction (as listed in Bosch's code table) plus a pressure transducer (PT) and a high pressure switch.
Point check: pressing the check button steps through numbered data points, e.g. 0 = capacity (H3 = 3 ton heat pump), 1 = mode (0 standby, 2 cooling, 3 heating), 2 = compressor speed in Hz.
The inverter bus can hold about 380 VDC; Bosch says to wait and verify less than 42 VDC at the inverter test points P-N before service.
