Bosch Ascenta, 300 and 500 Series dishwashers (older SHE/SHX generations): quick sheet
Covers: Older Bosch 24 in dishwashers sold as Ascenta, 300 Series and 500 Series under the older model-number convention, where the 4th character is the series (A = Ascenta, 3 = 300, 5 = 500), for example SHE3AR.., SHX3AR.., SHE43.., SHX43.., SHE55.., SHX55... Bosch dropped the Ascenta name in 2023 when it reorganized the entry line into the 100 Series. For the current 100 Series SHE3AR see its own sheet. Exact years per generation were not confirmed by two sources; read the FD (production) number on the door edge label.
These Bosch units share the same basic system: a sealed base pan with a float switch, a circulation pump with an integrated heater (the 'heat pump') instead of an exposed element, a separate drain pump with a snap-in white pump cover under the filter, and condensation drying. The calls that dominate are E24/E25 (drain), E15 (water in the base pan) and heating faults. Clean and check the cheap things (filter, pump cover, hose, disposal plug) before parts.
Safety first
- Breaker off before reaching into the sump or removing the kick plate.
- Glass in the sump: wear gloves.
- Water off before touching the inlet valve or hoses.
How it works
Model decoding (older convention): S = dishwasher, H = standard 24 in; the 3rd letter is the control/handle style (E = front controls, X = bar handle, P = pocket handle, V = panel-ready); the 4th character is the series.
Drain: a small drain pump in the sump, protected by a white snap-in cover under the filter. E24 is generally read as a drain blockage (filter, hose, disposal) and E25 as the drain pump blocked (pump cover, impeller jammed, often by glass).
Leak protection: the tub sits over a base pan with a foam float and switch. Any water in the pan trips E15 and the drain pump runs. Tilting the unit clears the code but the leak source (pump seals, circulation pump/heater, inlet, door gasket, sump) still has to be found.
Heating: the wash water is heated in the circulation pump body rather than by an exposed element. Heating faults (E09 on these generations) point to that pump/heater or its NTC sensor and wiring.
Drying is condensation: hot final rinse, steam condenses on the cooler stainless tub. Wet plastics are normal; rinse aid matters.
