Cross-checkedBrands: Bosch8 components

Mid-line Bosch: 16 place settings, 46 dBA, stainless tub, third rack, PureDry closed condensation drying (no exposed heating element), AquaStop leak protection, Home Connect remote start. No hard food disposer: the manual filter must be cleaned. Faults use the Bosch E-codes (E15 water in base, E24/E25 drain, E09/E21 heat pump, E22 filter). Deeper diagnostics are in the Bosch dishwasher field service manual.

Safety first

  • Switch off the circuit (or unplug) and close the water supply before removing the kick plate or pulling the unit.
  • Hardwired units: open the junction box only with the breaker off and verified dead.
  • Water in the sump may be hot right after a cycle; the heating element stays hot for a while.
  • Live-voltage checks at the valve, pump, heater or board are caution work.
  • Watch for broken glass in the filter and sump.
  • Flood risk: keep towels down and confirm no leaks after reconnecting.

How it works

Tub and racks: stainless tall tub, three racks (third rack standard), RackMatic upper rack with three heights.

Pump and wash: inlet with flow meter and AquaStop hose; a combined circulation pump with built-in heater (the Bosch "heat pump") heats and circulates water through two spray arms; a separate small drain pump empties the sump. Aquasensor reads soil/turbidity. The page also lists SilentPowerDrive and PrecisionWash.

Programs: Heavy, Auto, Normal, Speed 60 and Favorite on the panel, with Sanitize, Extra Dry and Remote Start options; more programs (e.g. Half Load, Machine Care, Rinse) through Home Connect.

Filtration: three-part manual filter (cylinder, fine mesh, micro filter) in the tub floor, no disposer.

Drying: PureDry is closed condensation drying: no outside air, moisture condenses on the cooler tub as dishes cool. Rinse aid is essential.

Leak protection: AquaStop combines a base-pan float switch with a safety valve at the supply end of the inlet hose.

Whirlpool family dishwashers: reading Clean-light flash codes, F#E# displays and the diagnostic cycle

Models with a display show the code as F#E#. Lights-only models blink one LED in two groups: the first group is the F (function) number, a short pause, then the E (error) number, then a long pause before it repeats. A diagnostic cycle on many of these controls is entered by pressing any three keys in a 1-2-3 order three times quickly, which lights all indicators and lets you run the cycle to watch each function.

GE appliances: reading and recalling fault codes on dishwashers and laundry

GE dishwashers with electronic controls show codes on the display (C1, H2O, PF and similar) or flash the Start/Reset light in counted groups on LED-only models. GE itself splits codes into ones the user can clear (delay, detergent cup, power failure, kinked hose) and ones that need service. GE laundry generations differ a lot: older top-loaders flash LEDs, front-loaders keep a stored-code list inside a test mode. Entry sequences vary between GE models and the sources disagree, so take them only from the model's tech sheet.

Frigidaire / Electrolux: diagnostic mode, last-fault recall and relay-test codes that are not faults

Newer Frigidaire/Electrolux dishwashers show i-codes (i10, i20, i50 and similar) and two-letter codes; during the relay test inside diagnostic mode they also show short codes that only confirm the test is running and are not faults. Front-load washers keep a last-code readout you reach with a button pair or knob position. Refrigerators lose the fault code when the plug is pulled. Entry sequences differ by model and the sources conflict, so get them from the service data sheet on the unit.
