ActiveSmart uses an electronic control that adjusts compressor speed, fans and defrost to how the fridge is used (door openings, ambient, load). Many units use a variable-speed (inverter) compressor driven by a separate inverter board. Faults are reported as a number: count the alarm beeps, or on LED models read the pattern across the panel as a binary value.

Safety first

Sealed refrigerant system (compressor replacement, leak repair, recharge) is blocked: diagnose and refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.
Inverter boards hold charge; unplug and wait before handling.

How it works

Adaptive defrost: defrost frequency is calculated from usage instead of a fixed timer. Code 2 flags a defrost problem.

Variable-speed operation: a slow ramp-up of the compressor can be normal. Do not condemn the compressor because it starts quietly.

Fault display: the number of beeps equals the fault code (five beeps = code 5). On models that use flashing lights instead, find the red LED's position on the panel and convert it with the binary chart in the tech data.

Showroom / demo mode keeps lights and display working with no cooling. Rule it out on any 'not cooling' call on a new install.
