Whirlpool/Maytag VMW HE top-load: replacing the suspension rods

Whirlpool-built HE top-loaders (Cabrio, Bravos, WTW5000-type and similar) hang the tub from four spring-damped suspension rods. As the damper ends wear, the tub sags and swings into the cabinet during spin. The rods are sold as a four-piece kit and should be replaced together; access is from the top after lifting the top panel.

  • Unplug the washer before lifting the top.
  • Prop or support the raised top so it cannot fall on hands.
