White or bright round spots on an LED TV (fallen backlight lenses)
On direct-lit LED TVs each backlight LED has a small plastic diffuser lens (often called a reflector) glued over it. When the glue fails from heat, the lens drops off and that LED shines straight through as a hot spot. It is a backlight hardware problem, not settings or a bad input. The fix is to open the panel and reattach the lenses or replace the LED strips; spots that spread over months mean more lenses are letting go.
Before you start
- Unplug the TV and wait before opening it; the power board holds charge
- The LCD panel and its ribbon cables are fragile; lift the panel flat with two people and never press on it
- Opening the TV usually voids the warranty; check coverage first
