Replace the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe)

The oven sensor is a thin probe at the top rear of the oven cavity, held by two screws, with a plug just behind the wall. Test it first, then pull it forward, unplug it without losing the connector into the wall, and plug in the new one. Electric and gas ovens use the same approach for the sensor; no gas parts are touched.

Before you start

  • Turn off the range breaker(s) or unplug the range and let the oven cool.
  • Gas ranges: turn off and unplug only; do not disconnect or adjust the gas supply or valve (gas work is blocked: refer to a licensed gas technician).
  • Do not let the connector slip back through the wall.
