Known issue: Samsung slide-in electric range turns on by accidental knob contact (2024 recall)
In August 2024 CPSC announced a recall of about 1.12 million Samsung slide-in electric ranges (model numbers starting NE58 or NE63, sold May 2013 to August 2024) because the front-mounted knobs can be turned on by accidental contact from people or pets. The remedy is a free knob lock or knob cover kit that the owner installs, not a part swap. Techs recognize it by front knobs on a slide-in Samsung electric range plus a story of the cooktop being found on.
Before you start
- If an element is on and unattended, turn it off and let the glass cool before touching anything.
- Do not store anything on the cooktop, even when it is off. CPSC says to keep pets and children away from the knobs until locks or covers are installed.
- Never disable or remove knobs as a 'fix'; use the manufacturer kit.
