Known issue: Goodman/Daikin evaporator coil drain pans melting above upflow furnaces (2021-2022 recall)

Goodman (now Daikin Comfort Technologies) recalled about 298,300 evaporator coil drain pans in the US because the plastic pan can overheat, melt and deform above a gas furnace, posing a fire hazard. The November 2021 recall covered pans over condensing gas furnaces in upflow; the July 2022 expansion added certain other-brand non-condensing furnaces. Affected coils have serial prefixes 1901 through 2101 (sold January 2019 to November 2021), including replacement pans installed in that window. The fix is a free repair kit installed by a qualified technician after the owner registers.

Before you start

  • If the pan is melted or scorched, turn the furnace off at the thermostat and service switch and do not run the heat until repaired
  • Do not open or alter the gas train, burners, venting or heat exchanger: refer to a licensed gas technician
  • Refrigerant circuit stays closed: no brazing or line work here
