Known issue: GE Profile WPGT93/WPGT91 top-loaders overheating (2016 recall)

In September 2016 GE Appliances and the CPSC recalled about 222,000 GE Profile high-efficiency top-load washers, model numbers WPGT9350, WPGT9360 and WPGT9150 (all serials, sold June 2003 to October 2011), because an electrical component could overheat and catch fire. The remedy was a free repair from GE. These are now old machines, so many are still in service unrepaired.
