Install water hammer arrestors at the washer valves

Washer inlet valves close fast, and the pressure shock can bang the pipes. Screw-on arrestors fit between the washer box valves and the fill hoses and absorb that shock. Also check the house static pressure: if it is high, a pressure-reducing valve may be needed, because arrestors alone do not fix high pressure.

Before you start

  • Close both washer valves and unplug the washer before disconnecting hoses.
  • Hoses contain water under pressure until the valves are closed; open them slowly afterwards.
