Install washer and dryer pedestals (front-load)
Pedestals raise front-load washers and dryers to a comfortable height and must be the model the appliance maker lists. The pedestal is leveled first, then the machine is set on it and locked in with the clamps or brackets, and the machine's own leveling feet are handled as that brand's instructions say. Loose jam nuts and an unlevel pedestal are what make a raised washer walk.
Before you start
- Shut off water and unplug the washer (and dryer) before moving them; for a gas dryer, gas connections are BLOCKED here: a licensed installer disconnects and reconnects gas.
- Two people are needed to tip and lift the machines onto pedestals.
- Keep the washer's transport (shipping) bolts in place until the instructions say to remove them.
