Furnace flame rollout switch tripped (safety shutdown, refer)

A rollout trip means flame or heat escaped where it should not: a blocked flue, blocked or cracked heat exchanger, dirty burners, or gas pressure problems. Our role is to identify the code, make the appliance safe, check for CO and refer. Do not bypass or keep resetting.

Cross-checked ~20 min easyBrands: All

Before you start

  • Blocked: diagnosis of the burner, gas valve, manifold pressure, heat exchanger and venting goes to a licensed HVAC/gas technician.
  • If anyone has headaches, nausea or the CO alarm sounds, get everyone out and call the gas utility or 911.
  • Never jumper or remove a rollout switch.
