Field pattern: Speed Queen top-loader won't spin (lid lock / lid switch and belt before the board or transmission)
These machines will not spin unless the control sees the lid closed and, on current models, locked. Most no-spin calls come down to the lid switch/lock, its wiring or striker, or a worn or loose belt. The wrong turn is condemning the control or transmission before reading the light pattern and testing the lid circuit.
Before you start
- Unplug the washer before opening the console or cabinet
- Never bypass the lid switch or lid lock to run a spin; it is a safety interlock
- Live-voltage checks at the lock or motor are caution tests
