Field pattern: coil element keeps burning out (replace the burned receptacle too)
When an element's terminals arc, the receptacle it plugs into is damaged too. A burned receptacle has high resistance, gets hot and ruins the new element. Techs replace the element and its receptacle together and check the wire ends; replacing only the element is the common callback.
Before you start
- Turn off the range breaker (or unplug) before lifting the cooktop or touching the receptacle
- Let elements cool fully
- 240 V circuit: never work on the receptacle with power on
