Gritty or sandy residue on dishes after washing

Grit is usually redeposited soil: a clogged filter, a drain that cannot clear (air gap, disposer, hose) or detergent that did not dissolve. Hard water causes white film rather than grit. Work from the filter outward, then check the drain path and the wash motor.

Dishwasher not draining / standing water

Work from cheapest to costliest: filter and sump, drain hose and disposer/air gap, then pump impeller, then pump power. Water that returns 30-60 minutes after a good drain points to the check valve.

Field pattern: Bosch dishwasher E24 / E25 (filter, pump cover and impeller before a new drain pump)

E24 points to a drain problem and E25 to a blocked drain pump or a pump cover that is loose or missing. Most of these are cleared from inside the tub: filter, the clip-on pump cover under it, and a jammed impeller (glass, pits, thread wrapped on the shaft). The wrong turn is ordering a drain pump or board before opening the pump cover and checking the drain hose and disposal connection.
