Noritz NRC condensing tankless (NRC661, NRC711, NRC98, NRC1111): quick sheet (diagnostic and electrical side)
Covers: Residential NRC series direct-vent condensing tankless: NRC661-DV (and NRC661A), NRC711-DV, NRC98, NRC1111, NG and LP. Only the NRC661 figures were confirmed in this round.
Condensing tankless with PVC venting and a condensate drain (Noritz lists the NC-1 neutralizer as an accessory; the part number changed in 2026). The NRC661 runs on a 1/2-in gas line. Heat exchanger warranty depends on a correct installation per the manual, with a shorter term on recirculation systems. Deep diagnostics: gas tankless water heater field service manual. Sister: Noritz EZ sheet.
Safety first
- Gas appliance: smell gas = stop, no switches or flames, leave and call the gas utility.
- Gas valve, gas pressure, burner, orifice, gas line and venting changes are for a licensed gas technician only. This sheet covers inspection, codes, water side and the low-voltage / 120 V electrical side.
- Venting problems (spillage, CO alarm, condensate backing up) are a shut-down-and-refer item.
- Turn off power and gas and let the unit cool before opening the cabinet.
How it works
Flow sensor starts the sequence, fan purge, ignition, flame rod proves flame, board modulates.
Condensing secondary exchanger produces acidic condensate that must be neutralized and drained.
