Compressor wine and beverage refrigerators (incl. dual-zone): field service manual
Covers: Freestanding and built-in wine coolers and beverage centers with a vapor-compression sealed system; single and dual zone
These work like a small refrigerator: a compressor, condenser, evaporator and fans, controlled by cabinet (and on many units evaporator) thermistors. Dual-zone units control two compartments with separate sensors and often separate fans or dampers. Built-in units breathe through a front grille; freestanding units need side/rear clearance.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing panels
- Sealed system is blocked: no recharge, brazing, leak repair or compressor replacement; refer to an EPA 608-certified technician
- Live-voltage checks on fans/compressor circuits are caution work
How it works
The control compares the cabinet thermistor with the setpoint and runs the compressor and fans.
The condenser fan removes heat at the condenser; the evaporator fan circulates cold air.
An evaporator sensor (where fitted) manages defrost; defrost water runs through a drain to a tray.
Dual-zone units balance two compartments with their own sensors; alarms trigger when a zone stays far from setpoint (U-Line: about 10°F for 6 or 12 hours).
