AC/heat pump outdoor fan not spinning
On conventional units the usual causes are a failed fan capacitor, a seized motor or a contactor problem. On inverter mini-splits the fan is driven by the board and usually posts a fan error code.
Before you start
- Turn off the breaker and the outdoor disconnect; confirm 0 V with a meter before touching wiring
- Inverter and capacitor-start units hold dangerous voltage after power-off; wait the time on the label and verify 0 V DC before touching boards or capacitors
- Never push-start a fan blade with fingers
