Dehumidifier season start: filter, bucket, coils, drain hose and a proof run

LG and Midea manuals say to clean the air filter about every two weeks in use, and GE's reminder light comes on after 250 hours of operation. Start each season by cleaning the filter, washing the bucket, vacuuming the coils and grille, checking the continuous-drain hose or pump, and running the unit long enough to see it collect water.

Cross-checked ~30 min easyBrands: LG, Midea, GE, Frigidaire, Hisense, All

Before you start

  • Unplug before cleaning
  • Do not wash filters in a dishwasher (GE) and do not use bleach or abrasives on the case
  • Let a unit that was moved or tipped stand upright for the time its manual says before starting the compressor
