Known issue: LG / Kenmore Elite gas dryers keep heating after the cycle ends (2012 recall)

In August 2012 LG and Sears recalled about 21,000 LG and Kenmore Elite gas dryers sold November 2009 to August 2010 because the gas valve could fail to shut off. Only certain serial ranges of LG DLG0452W, DLG1320W, DLG2051W and eight Kenmore Elite 796.9xxxx models are included. The remedy was a free gas valve replacement. Repaired units carry a colored sticker or a '+' mark near the gas valve. Gas valve work is for a licensed gas technician or the manufacturer's service.

Replacing a broken or slipping dryer drum belt

A broken belt leaves the motor spinning with no drum movement. Open the cabinet, put the new belt around the drum with the ribbed side against the drum, then route it through the idler and onto the motor pulley. Inspect the idler and rollers while you are in there.
