Install a custom door panel on a panel-ready dishwasher (and rebalance the door)
Panel-ready dishwashers take a cabinet-matching front that the cabinetmaker builds to the dishwasher maker's template. The panel must stay within the model's size and weight limits, be mounted with the supplied hardware, and the door springs must then be adjusted (or upgraded with a heavier spring kit) so the door holds when partly open and does not fall or snap shut. Size and weight limits differ widely between brands and models, so always work from the model's own instructions.
Before you start
- Turn off the dishwasher breaker before pulling the unit out to reach hinge spring adjusters.
- Door springs are under tension: adjust only with the method the instructions give and keep fingers clear of the hinge arms.
- A door that falls open under its panel weight can injure someone or tip an unanchored unit; do not leave it unbalanced.
- Disconnecting and reconnecting water and power follows the dishwasher install guide; new wiring is for a qualified electrician where required.
