Install an instant hot water dispenser (sink faucet and under-sink tank)

An instant hot dispenser is a small unpressurized tank under the sink feeding a dedicated vented faucet in a sink or countertop hole. It needs a cold-water connection with its own shutoff, a grounded GFCI outlet under the sink that stays powered, and the tank must be completely filled before it is plugged in. Only the faucet made for the tank can be used, because the faucet vents the tank.

Before you start

  • Water from these units is near boiling: warn the customer and keep children away from the faucet.
  • Never plug the tank in before it is full of water; a dry tank is damaged permanently.
  • The under-sink outlet must be grounded and GFCI protected and should not be on the disposal's switch; a new outlet is for a qualified electrician where required.
  • Use only the faucet supplied for the tank; a standard faucet pressurizes the tank.
