Gas dryer lights, then the flame drops out and won't relight (electrical checks only)
On the common glow-bar burner, the flame (radiant) sensor and the gas valve coils work as a team: when the igniter is hot the sensor opens and the coils open the valve. Coils that weaken with age often work cold and quit once warm, which gives exactly this 'works some, then quits' pattern. Fix airflow first, confirm igniter and sensor, then the coils are the usual answer. Everything on the gas side itself is a licensed gas technician's job.
Before you start
- If you smell gas at any point: stop, do not operate switches, leave and call the gas utility from outside
- Unplug the dryer and close the dryer's gas shutoff before opening the burner access
- Never loosen gas fittings, the valve body or the burner orifice; never adjust gas pressure. That is licensed gas-technician work
