Gas dryer runs but no heat (electrical checks only)

On a gas dryer the electrical side of the burner can be diagnosed safely with gas and power off: thermal fuse, high-limit, cycling thermostat, igniter, flame (radiant) sensor and gas valve coils. Gas supply, gas lines, the valve body and gas pressure are off-limits: refer to a licensed gas technician.

Before you start

  • If there is any smell of gas: do not touch switches, leave the area and call the gas utility from outside
  • Close the gas shutoff and unplug the dryer before any panel removal
  • Do not loosen, disconnect or repair gas fittings, flex lines or the gas valve body; do not adjust or test gas pressure
  • The igniter is fragile and gets hot; do not touch the element
