Premium built-in refrigerator: one section warm (Sub-Zero vs. Monogram logic)

Start by knowing the architecture. Sub-Zero built-ins have two separate sealed systems, so a warm section means a fault in that section's own fan, defrost, sensor or system. Monogram built-ins share one freezer evaporator and feed fresh food through a damper, so a warm fresh-food side with a cold freezer points at the damper, airflow or an iced return passage.

Field pattern: fridge warm? Read the evaporator frost and check the fan before blaming the compressor

The evaporator coil tells you which system failed. A coil packed with ice means a defrost failure (the sealed system is fine); a light, even frost with no air moving means a fan problem; frost on only the first part of the coil, or none at all with the compressor running, points to the sealed system. Condemning the compressor without looking at the coil is the common wrong turn.

Field pattern: evaporator ices up again after a defrost repair

A new heater fixes nothing if something else stops it from turning on or the melt water cannot leave. Techs trace repeat freeze-ups to the defrost thermostat or evaporator sensor, the timer or defrost control, a frozen drain or drain trough, heaters installed in the wrong position, or warm humid air from a bad door seal. The wrong turn is replacing the heater a second time.
