Where's the rating plate?
- Refrigerator: Fresh-food ceiling, side wall or door; also behind the crisper or the bottom front kickplate. Gallery/Professional often on the interior door frame.
- Washer: Top-load: underside of the lid. Front-load: inner door or door well.
Reading the model number
Serial starts with two letters followed by digits; the model is printed above it on the same tag.
Manufacture date from the serial number
Cross-checkedCharacter 1 = factory letter, character 2 = product-type letter, character 3 (first digit) = last digit of the year, characters 4-5 = week.
EXAMPLE ONLY: XX61234567 -> 6 = 2006 or 2016, week 12.
Year digit repeats every 10 years. Many current tags also print the manufacture date. Pre-1986 tags have no consistent code; a tag saying 'General Motors' means made before 1979. Same rule used on Electrolux-made Kenmore and sister brands.
